<p><i>Sunshades in October </i>(1963) argues that under certain circumstances economic domestic restraint will in fact do precisely the opposite. This went against British economic policy of the time based on the assumption that a restraint on domestic demand must always serve in some measure to ease the problems of securing sufficient exports and of containing cost inflation.</p>
