Seven-year-old orphan Pip has no idea that his life is about to change forever on Christmas Eve when he encounters a fugitive convict. When Pip meets the wealthy Miss Havisham he is also introduced to her adopted daughter Estella who leaves quite an impression on Pip. After receiving a sizeable amount of money from an unknown benefactor he leaves for London to seek a better life and make something of himself. Then Estella arrives in London and Pip has no doubt he is in love with her as he becomes her companion and takes her around the city. But when the identity of his benefactor is revealed a calamitous series of events unfolds. With its complex themes involving love loyalty friendship and the struggle to aspire in society Great Expectations is one of Charles Dickens’ most popular novels.
