<p>First published in 1984 this collection represents the combined contributions to an international conference held at the University of Bristol in April 1983. In assessing the complex relationship between education and development it covers a wide range of countries in its appraisal and presents pictures both of optimism and pessimism. All however encourage the reader to re-examine long-held beliefs and presents a new starting point for fresh discussion of this vital subject.</p>
